Bridgend County Symphonic Brass was founded by Head of Bridgend Music Service, Simon Gray and Brass Tutor Rob Edwards in 2011 to give the County’s leading brass players the opportunity to play chamber music to the highest standards. The ensemble performs a wide range of music from Renaissance polyphony to Jazz, Rock and Pop.
The group, which is made up of 13 – 18 year old musicians, meets for weekly rehearsals at Coleg Cymunedol Y Dderwen in Bridgend. The group’s versatility has seen it appear at a wide range of events including, local charity fundraising concerts, Remembrance services and a Concert tour to France, performing on the Royal Castle Stage in Disneyland Paris. Symphonic Brass have been successful in the Regional Music For Youth Festival for the second time and have again been Invited to perform at the National Music For Youth Festival held in Birmingham in July.
Many of our members have represented Bridgend after successfully auditioning for the National Youth Orchestra, Brass Band, Wind Orchestra and Choir of Wales, and also the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. A number have gone on to study music at university or music college and then into professional music making.
