National Music for Youth Festival 2015 – Birmingham

Following their Regional Festival performance, Bridgend County Symphonic Brass performed at the National Music for Youth Festival in Birmingham on 8th July 2015. It was a very big honour to perform amongst some of the best youth musicians in the country.
The programme was John Williams Olympic Famfare and Theme which the Music Mentors described as “A fantastic opening, great rhythmic clarity….this was engaging dynamic performance with some excellent playing”.
Concierto de Arajuez was next with the solo performed brilliantly by Harvey Rees on Flugelhorn. Again the mentors had some lovely comments, “Your soloist performed this beautifully. A lovely sense of ensemble here with good attention to detail. Very professionally prepared and delivered.
The performance finished with a modern take on King Henry VIII’s Pastime with Good Company with the drum kit entering half way through with a heavy rock beat. Described as “…good stylistic performance of quasi-renaissance material. I wasn’t expecting what followed! And loved the sense of surprise!! There is some excellent playing here, and a great ensemble. We’ll done – a really engaging performance”.

It is not an easy task to make it to the National Festival and to perform to such a high standard is a brilliant achievement and a great reflection of the hard work the pupils and staff have put in!

Congratulations to all Pupils and Staff!
